2021-01-25 United states and marketing (in financial services)

Marketing - as a resource to understand market. I was always very excited to know what other professionals in my field do to achieve next step. It is as I understood that a one small thing can change the behaviors of the business and agreements on first look very unpredictable and non-profitable can turn to good ones.

Same is for marketing on US market. It is a connected market with many players, some motivated by quick profit, some very deep in knowledge and some waiting for their salary to come. 

As Covid19 did hit it became very hard to engage in any conversation outside of the circle I knew. And as new-comer my circle is very small - u can count it on fingers of one hand. Following the news in November and October I did decide to get close to market. Spend time with potential customers, learn about them, share the knowledge.

It is good to know the size of your market. Not only in terms of loans underwritten, in terms of products or in terms of current development. Players that sit on each market, their priorities, their struggles and what they would like to achieve. And that is a lot of dots that wave to be connected.

Since beginning we knew how many lenders we have on a market, how many credit unions and how many banks. It was, though hard to connect the numbers to real companies even we did focus on web-pages of the lenders. It was just too many numbers, too many different designs and all looked very simillar. 

Once we have been able to connect those companies to faces with their professional and personal journeys it got much easier. We might be seeking a great company to cooperate, but without an individual to talk to....excitement got lost very fast.

The best way how to connect with partners now-days is LinkedIn. Unfortunately people in lending are picky and seem to distinguish who they want to connect to. As the middle management is the least cooperative, thinking of having holly grails in their hands. 

Working on LinkedIn is important. Good picture, professional CV, good universities. That is must. 

Another thing working very well is to get closer to the people u feel might do the same you do, from same side or from opposite site. And that is the next step.
